I installed yappa-ng about
8 months ago and have upgraded several times without a hitch.
I used the GD option because getting ImageMagik to work
would have required letting the command processor be executed
by the web server. That should say enough why not to use
ImageMagik on a 2003 web server.

I just installed yappa-ng yesterday and it is FANTASTIC.
I tried to find software like this about 9 months ago
[ ... ]
Anyway I spent 2 days with those tools and they
still didnt work.
Now I installed yappa-ng and just took about 1 hour
to find out all settings what I need. Also documentation
is really clear. Good work.
Perfect program. Thanks a lot.

It did not work right out of the box, mainly because of
wrong file
permissions which was my fault.
Another proposal: Why not make one hints.log and
place it in the php source tree? I bet you will have less
users "complaining" (see above, I know it was
my fault) about problems with write permissions.
[ ... ]
Anyway, I used to write shareware on OS/2 and I
know that you do a lot of work and a great job. Tanks
a lot for that - I really like yappa-ng!!!!!!!
[ Note of Editor: I took
this as hint and created a "RAEDME.txt" in the
yapppa-ng root directory with a big hint linking to the

[
Note of Editor: You need this tip only if you are using
the GD library and not the ImageMagick ]
This function, as well as other functions that rely on the
gd library, generates an error when you don't have the
extension configured in your php.ini file. I had some
trouble finding out how to get it working so here are the
steps I took on a clean (windows / apache)- install:
* In addition to the (windows binary)
installer, I downloaded the zip package which has a lot
of things the installer hasn't. I unpacked the extensions
directory in my own c:\php\extensions dir.
* I changed some lines in php.ini:
+ find the extension_dir setting and set it to
c:/PHP/extensions (or your own path of course)
+ found the ;extension=php_gd.dll
line and removed the semicolon
* I restarted apache and it worked
Hope this helps you all out or at
least gives you a valuable hint to get it working,

Thanks
a lot for your great tool yappa-ng. It´s just excellent.
I have
installed is without any big troble on debian (woody) See
description below.Some changes in httpd.conf are needed:
in file
/etc/apache/httpd.conf:
check that the following lines are uncommented:
LoadModule php4_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/libphp4.so
and check Document Root:
DocumentRoot /var/www/yappa-ng
[ Note of Editor: Setting yappa-ng as Apache
DocumentRoot is only needed if you want yappa-ng to be
your only application running on your server. (http://YourDomain/
)You can install yappa.ng in your standard DocumentRoot
and just call http://YourDomain/xappa-ng/]
and add the following lines:
<IfModule mod_php4.c>
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .php4 .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
</IfModule>
Check permissions of Directories!!!!
cd /var/www/yappa-ng
chown -R www-data:www-data *
also dont forget to set the permissions for the temp-Dir!!!
(/var/temp/yappa-ng)

I did
have to put the <Directory> statement in my httpd.conf
file for pictures to work. I also had to make sure I
used backslashes '\' in the path to ImageMagick. That's
it! The hardest part was getting ImageMagick working. It
requires some Xfree86 libraries, but doesn't tell you about
that dependency. Once I figured that out, it wasn't a problem. |

I found out that your faq needs
to be updated. I found a
message on one of the boards on sourceforge dealing with
the images not
appearing and one of your suggestions was to add some lines
to your
httpd2.conf file. The first section was in the faq, but
the second one
wasn't. Here is what I had to ultimately add to my httpd2.conf
file to
get it to work:
<Directory /var/www/yappa-ng>
AllowOverride Options FileInfo
AcceptPathInfo On
</Directory>
<Files "show.php">
Options +Includes
SetOutputFilter INCLUDES>
AcceptPathInfo On
</Files>
The faq only has the first section listed. I now have
it up and working.
Thanks again for making such a professional and logically
organized
program.
[ Note of Editor:I had this "second part"
in the FAQ but got many messages that it does not work
- only the "first part" works. I have put it
in the FAQ again!!]

it did not fix the image
problem. Since I was in a hurry to get the gallery running
I have not had
a chance to try other solutions, but I wanted to tell you
that adding
<Files> did not fix it. I used the <Directory>
section as shown.
